The contents of this book have been divided into six parts. First part contains chapter one: introduction. Background of the World Bank Group, the Millennium Development Goals, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), objectives of the study, and the structure of the book have been discussed in this chapter.

Part II contains two chapters. Chapter 2 deals with the functioning and performance of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It describes

Articles of Agreement of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It describes World Bank Group‘s corporate scorecard used in the evaluation of working of the group. Then, the chapter deals with the performance of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development on two tracks. First, it discusses developmental outcomes in the light of Millennium Development Goals. Second, it judges the performance through corporate scorecard and evaluates the financial and other operations of the institution. Chapter 3 is concerned with the International Development Association. It describes the functioning, funding, and allocation criteria of the institution. The Articles of Agreement of International Development Association have been discussed in this chapter. Further, the lending pattern of the institution has been analysed in this chapter. Development achievements of the institution have also been discussed in this chapter.

Part III contains one chapter concerned with the International Finance Corporation. The chapter deals with the functioning, funding and the solutions provided by the International Finance Corporation. It describes the Articles of Agreement of the institution. The lending patterns on industry, region, and theme aspects have been discussed in the chapter. Further, developmental achievements of the institution have been described.

Part IV contains one chapter that deals with Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency. The strategy, products and shareholding of MIGA have been described in this chapter. It also describes the Convention establishing the MIGA. Further, it describes Agency‘s functioning including types of coverage, eligibility, reinsurance, partnership, trust funds and strategy to combat corruption among others. The performance of the Agency in motivating fund inflows into developing countries through providing guarantee to investments has also been described in the chapter.

Part V contains one chapter pertaining to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. The organisation including administrative council, secretariat and ICSID panel has been discussed in the chapter. The chapter describes the services provided by the Centre. Further, it deals with the process involved in Arbitration and Conciliation under ICSID cases and Non-ICSID cases including the preparation of report. The chapter describes the Convention establishing the Centre. The performance of the Centre in solving the disputes has been discussed.

Part VI contains two chapters. Chapter 7 discusses the development in developing countries on regional basis in the light of Millennium Development Goals. It analyses disparities in the development level in different regions of the developing world. It also contains critical discussion of Structural Adjustment Programmes prescribed the World Bank and the IMF in financing in developing countries. Chapter 8 concludes the finding of the study. The suggestions for more effective and meaningful functioning of the World Bank Group have also been made in the chapter.

Dr O.S. DEOL obtained his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He has more than 25 years of teaching and research experience.
