In the pursuit of optimal functionality and safety within professional and educational environments, the significance of high-quality lighting cannot be overstated. Numerous research studies underscore the profound impact of illumination on human biological health, encompassing crucial factors such as heart rate, blood pressure, and circadian rhythm. A conscientious approach to lighting design must prioritize both the specific tasks at hand and the overall well-being and comfort of occupants. Instances of subpar lighting, including flickering lights and insufficient lighting controls in interior spaces, have been linked to various health issues such as eye strain and headaches.

Consequently, it is imperative to address these concerns to foster environments conducive to productivity and well-being. Striking a balance between well-designed artificial lighting and ample natural light is paramount in any intellectual learning space. A critical aspect of human-centric lighting design pertains to readability, a facet essential for effective communication and comprehension. Inadequate illumination during reading, whether due to low light levels or the absence of appropriate reading lamps, poses a potential risk to eye health. Headaches and eye strain may manifest as adverse consequences. The importance of ensuring optimal lighting conditions for reading cannot be overstated.

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive guide, the authors have meticulously crafted this book for students, interior designers, and architects. This resource is intended to empower readers with insights and practical knowledge to skillfully design and plan lighting for reading rooms. The book not only delves into the theoretical underpinnings but also offers tangible suggestions for enhancing reading areas in both residential and educational settings.

Furthermore, this book extends its relevance to individuals engaged in prolonged reading activities, with a particular emphasis on students who invest significant amount of time in reading. By amalgamating research findings with practical applications, this book aspires to be a valuable companion for anyone involved in the thoughtful curation of spaces where lighting plays a pivotal role in human well-being and performance.
