This book is a Family and Community Sciences (previously, Home Science). Each specialization in the field of Family and Community Sciences, namely Foods and Nutrition (FN), Clothing and Textiles (CT), Extension and Communication (EC), Family and Community Resource Management (FCRM) and Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) has grown exponentially in the last decade or so. However, a deep questioning of the received Euro-American frameworks was always rather sporadic and inconsequential. The New Education Policy (2020) has empowered universities and colleges to move away from the shackles of colonized knowledge and Euro-American epistemologies by making it mandatory to introduce IKS at the undergraduate level. In support of this view, this textbook introduces FCSc undergraduate students to Bharat‘s rich and diverse cultural heritage, traditions, arts and cultural practices that have enriched our civilizational life from time immemorial.
